Woman Crushed by @ClearChannelUK Billboard in London

The UK’s Daily Mail and Evening Standard are both running stories on an awful accident that happened during the Tuesday morning rush hour which saw a recently installed digital billboard fall from the wall it was supposedly securely attached to and crush a woman passer-by.

Clear Channel UK issued the following statement “On the morning of the 12th May, we received reports that a digital billboard in the Tooting area of London had fallen from a wall, injuring a passer-by. Our thoughts are with the woman who was injured”.

It continued “Our staff are attending the scene and we have launched a thorough investigation into the incident. We will issue a further statement in due course. Until we have established the facts around the incident, we cannot comment further”.

Thankfully, both papers are reporting that the “Woman miraculously escaped with injuries that are not thought life-threatening”.

This new installation is almost definitely part of the major UK digital expansion announced last November by former CEO Andrew Morley.

The actual LED itself is most probably from Ultravision International – a global innovator and manufacturer of digital video displays, LED lighting, LED billboards and electronic scoreboards and someone we have met in Dallas on occasion. They are also exhibiting this week at #AmplifyOOH. Ultravision CEO Bill Hall declined to comment for this story, referring (correctly) all press inquiries to Clear Channel.

The key question on everyone’s mind in the AV Industry (as well as, we are sure, thoughts for the woman injured) is who installed it and how?

We have a few ideas but obviously Clear Channel will be staying tight lipped for the time being.
