#AVtweeps #Infocomm15 License 2 Baffle UK Citizens

Andrew Neale

For UK people heading out to Orlando in a few weeks time for #Infocomm15 and looking to hire a car, it looks like we have yet-another-possible-UK-driving-license issue that you ought to be aware of.

The paper counterpart of the UK Driving License has been abolished and its effect on overseas car hire is still unclear (Note: in all the years we’ve hired a car abroad we have never been asked to produce it).

Some car hire firms (notably Avis) are advising that drivers (renters) should obtain a unique code from the DVLA website. The system then generates a one-time passcode – valid for 72 hours – which renters give to the hire company so their staff can view details of fines and penalty points online.

It’s confusing and there is more here.
