New #ClearConcept @PlanarSystems OLED Design Competition

Gail Chiasson, North American Editor

The #ClearConcept Awards competition is the first Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) transparent display design competition, created to stimulate innovative uses of this breakthrough technology.

planar_logoThe competition is designed to encourage inspiring, new applications for see-through installations, which represent the next wave of digital signage. The design contest comes as Planar Systems debuts its own Planar LookThru OLED transparent display, a new product – believed to be the first-of-its-kind – that’s a 55” display using cutting-edge OLED technology.

Entrants to the Clear Concept Awards must submit a sketch or rendering that demonstrates a specific use of an OLED transparent display that is both technically feasible and illustrates creative innovation. Submissions must also include a sketch or sample of the on-screen content and user experience.

Submissions must include a completed entry form, a written description of your design and two image sketches or renderings. Professional renderings are not required. The first sketch or rendering must show the surrounding environment of the PlanarLookThru OLED transparent display and the second image must show the content design. Images must be submitted in .jpg, .png, or .pdf. Other supplemental renderings will be accepted (but are not required) and can be submitted in .jpg, .png, .pdf, .mp4, or .mov. Deadline for submissions is January 8, 2016.

Grand prize winners will be featured in press coverage in key industry publications, receive a Planar LookThru OLED transparent display for his or her own studio or showroom use and a paid trip for two, including airfare and lodging, to Las Vegas to attend #dse2016 where they will be honoured with an award and participation in a panel luncheon celebrating his or her work.

Honorable Mentions will be highlighted in a Lookbook that showcases design ideas for possible future use of the Planar LookThru OLED transparent display.

The Clear Concept Awards Judging Panel includes: Anthony Vitagliano, director of experience design, Digital Kitchen; Brian James, design director, downstream; Christopher Hall, group managing editor, Networld Media Group; Dan Moalli, senior vice-president, Technomedia; Karen Bowery, LEED AP, IIDA executive vice-president, Ankrom Moisan Architects Inc.; Nathan Moody, design director, Stimulant.
