Does Out-of-Home Work? You bet it does!

Zoo Panda cubsOur readers might remember that members of the Out-of-Home Marketing Association of Canada recently asked viewers to name two new giant panda cubs at the Toronto Zoo.

The four-week OOH campaign by OMAC members: Astral Out-of-Home, Clear Channel Canada, Lamar Transit, OUTFRONT Media, Pattison Outdoor and Quebecor Media Out-of-Home garnered a total of 18,805 unique votes to name the panda cubs.

The OOH campaign ran in the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal and Vancouver, and attracted the attention of Canadians and people from around the world. According to the Toronto Zoo, one-quarter of the votes were from outside Canada and the campaign generated over 7 million earned media impressions in print, broadcast and radio related to the nameourcubs.com advertising campaign. The total value of the advertising space donated by OMAC’s members for the panda naming campaign was over $500,000.

“OMAC and its OOH member companies have been incredibly generous in their in-kind partnership and adoption of our naming campaign for our giant panda cubs,”
says John Tracogna, CEO, Toronto Zoo. “We are extremely pleased with the engagement we saw on our naming campaign, with over 55,000 unique visitors to our webpage and 18,805 people who voted to name the cubs worldwide.”

And, from the choice of seven sets of names voted upon, the little cubs are now named Jia Panpan (Canadian Hope) and Jia Yueyeu (Canadian Joy).
