World’s Largest LCD from SHARP

Russ Curry, Ministry of New Media

The 108″ screen on show at Essen last week, is considered by SHARP as their flagship LCD monitor for commercial applications, and is billed as the world’s largest.

Sharp 108"

Not exactly new, the first installation was at the Shinjuku Piccadilly cinema complex (Shochiku Co. Ltd.), one of Tokyo’s premier multiplex movie theatres, in July last year. This was intended as a showcase for the new model, which is available on a build to order basis only. However, we haven’t seen many of them around here – not even at ISE in Amsterdam or Screen Media Expo Europe in London – so its presence at the entrance to the Digital Signage Expo last week certainly had an impact – especially since none of the other big screen manufacturers were present (the only other being Hyundai).

It’s a low-noise, fan-less design with high durability to handle round-the-clock continuous operation. Screen size is indeed 108V-inch (2381.76 W x 1,339.74 H mm; 2,732.7 mm on the diagonal, to be precise). Pixel count is 1,920 H x 1,080 V pixels, with a contrast of 1200:1, a screen brightness of 400 cd/m² and a response speed of 6ms. Operating temperature range is 0 – 40°C and the weight of the main unit (excluding stand) is 195 kilos.

Handy AV had the only Sharp 108 inch screen on our stand at Screen Media Expo.
I also saw 3 of these screens stacked one on top of the other at ISE this year.
Surely they are not that small to miss !

    You’d think so, wouldn’t you!
Thanks for the correction and I’m sorry to have missed you at Screen Media Expo.
Do you happen to know why Sharp themselves weren’t showing them at either show?
