Our Top Ten Industry Speakers of The Moment

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

We’ve written lists before of speakers who should not be missed. We’ve also whinged a lot about lazy conference organisers who will take any speaker (sometimes ‘sponsors’, other times just folks who are quick to put their hand up and not in their pocket – yes, we all know who these are).

My ‘industry’ definition here is a wide one, covering as it does; some AV, creative design / campaigns etc., digital signage, out of home, programmatic buying, retail and industry M&A.

In alphabetical order, if you see these folks on stage, go see ’em!

  • Manolo Almagro, He leads Q Division, a global consultancy dedicated to offering best in class IoT, connected commerce solutions, data-driven innovation strategies and emerging technology. He was appointed an AVIXA (nee InfoComm) Emerging Trends Fellow for Digital Signage in June 2017 and can often be seen leading retail and technology tours at CES, NRF, ISE, DSE, InfoComm, Mobile World Congress and elsewhere. He is officially a ‘Retail + Emerging Tech Subject Matter Expert: Mobile World Congress Tours’ for Mobile World Capital Barcelona and an ‘Emerging Tech – Subject Matter Expert’ at NRF. Talks about retail, the future, #AI, Blockchain and brings it all back to the now so you can start looking at implementing it. A truly amazing and entertaining speaker.
  • Dino Burbidge, Creative Director at WCRS in London. Dino and his agency are multi-award winning creatives. He is a natural in front of an audience and is not shy of sharing EXACTLY what he knows. Here’s someone who is absolutely confident enough to share his secret-sauce. Interested at all in content? Then he’s a must chat-with!
  • Justin Cochrane, CEO Clear Channel UK – I said this after he stepped in at the last minute last week at the European OOH Media Summit to speak and I meant it. “Show me the CEO of a media owner who can talk as credibly as Justin about digital, DOOH, automation, programmatic buying, location”. His presentations are always spot-on and again like the other people here, he is happy so share what he knows about the industry.
  • Laura Davis-Taylor, Principal Consultant, Retail Experience Strategy. As her online profile says, Laura was literally born into retail. Wandering malls serving as the eyes of her blind, fashion-addicted mom, she cultivated a sixth sense for understanding what makes a great store experience. Twenty years later, she’s been a brand planner, internet maven, store design strategist, innovation instigator and she even ‘wrote the book’ on in-store digital media. She often talk about FIVE different things at once but if you’re interested in anything retail related then she’s the lady to listen to
  • Nancy Fletcher, for 27 years, Nancy has led the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA) as president and chief executive officer. During her tenure at OAAA, U.S. out of home industry revenues have tripled, market share has more than doubled, and many regulatory matters have been favorably resolved. She’s an attorney with nearly 40 years’ experience in the OOH industry (yes folks I know that is hard to believe) and she really does speak rather well. You always get a ‘quiet’ polished performance, with poise and grace and oodles of insight. In her role as ‘the’ ambassador to the industry she is always political correct and sensitive BUT that does not stop her presenting with passion.
  • Stephanie Gutnik, Vice President, Business Development at Broadsign. Stephanie took on the role of speaking on behalf of Broadsign several years ago but unlike other ‘corporate spokes persons’ she actually has something useful and sensible to say. She’s articulate, super intelligent, equally good on camera as well as in front of an audience and has most recently made programmatic buying her thing (it could even be said that she ‘owns’ this topic globally – it’s certainly hard to think of anyone who knows as much globally about this topic than her). She was always one to fully understand the OOH advertising business but was one of the first to pick up on how it might change. She’s now an in-demand speaker on the topics of automation and programmatic buying and has been recognised by others too, as being one of the new generation of DOOH speakers out there.
  • Gary Kayye, Gary is the founder of Kayye Consulting, a technology consulting company, and rAVe [Publications], a publishing and digital communications company with more than 25 years of experience in technology sales and marketing. He’s often asked to be the keynote speaker at business and tech industry conferences because of his marketing and branding backgroud. He may be very well known in the AV world but he’s also built brand campaigns for more than two dozen companies in technology (and he’s even served as an ‘expert witness’ for various branding legal cases. He’s recognized as a social media and new media technology expert, and he’s an incredibly lively and engaging speaker. Get him on the right topic and he is truly excellent. If you are in London next week you can see him speak on day two of the NEC Solutions Showcase, which takes place at Victoria House, Holborn, London on May 16-17, 2018.
  • Bryan Meszaros, CEO & Founder of OpenEye Global, President of SEGD – you can see him at almost all SEGD events. His company, OpenEye quickly emerged as an industry trailblazer at a time when the use of interactive visual media had not yet been accepted as mainstream. Bryan saw the potential to blend his passion in design and fascination with technology to establish a creative agency that pushed the boundaries of experiential design. He has over 17 years of experience and has already been recognized as an industry leader in experiential design. He loves to share and he’s great on anything content related, creativity, experiential, digital signage and much more.
  • Steve Nesbit, one of the best, if not ‘the’ best industry consultant out there. He’s an expert in industry consolidation and M&A. He’s a perfectionist, spending ages on analysis and continually checking his facts. His huge network makes him speak with a personal touch. He’s also a great moderator and / or chairman. He will be speaking for us at The DailyDOOH Investor Conference on October 31, 2018 during New York Digital Signage Week.
  • Andreas Souptonuts, Co-founder Ayuda Media Systems, CEO Hivestack – aside from STRATACACHE CEO Chris Riegel, Andreas is probably the cleverest man in our industry. Ex-Microsoft in its hey day, his talks envision a future that hasn’t yet happened but surely will (he is consistently six to nine months ahead of any trend, and he’s away on the button).
  • Like the OSCARS, films the Academy has seen (most) recently are more to the forefront of one’s mind than those released last year but (we are well aware of that and) we’ve based our list on a ‘season’ from June 2017 up until now. Regular readers and industry veterans will therefore know that encompasses; a FEPE Annual Congress, an InfoComm, a New York Digital Signage Week, ISE, DSE, London Digital Signage Week and most recently #GOP2018 happening now in Austin, TX.

On their expert subject, we could easily listen to each of them for an hour or so!
