Jim Pattison to Receive Out-of-Home Merit Award

The AdClub of Toronto has announced that the fifth recipient of the Out-of-Home Merit Award is Jim Pattison.

Jim Pattison, widely regarded as one of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs and owner of Canada’s second largest privately-held companies, the Jim Pattison Group, is being recognized for his leadership in Canada’s Out-of-Home advertising industry at the Advertising Club of Toronto’s annual Out-of-Home Day on October 19, 2018, at the Sheraton Centre in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Frank Aballini, President of the AdClub of Toronto told us “Jim Pattison is a significant contributor to the growth of the Out-Of-Home industry in Canada, and his pioneering spirit in establishing Pattison Outdoor as one of Canada’s most pre-eminent media operators has enabled the Out-Of-Home industry in Canada to flourish”.

The growth of Pattison Outdoor is a story that spans over 50 years. In 1967, Pattison acquired Neon Products and Seaboard Advertising, two outdoor advertising companies that offered spectacular-format billboards in Toronto, Montreal and throughout Pattison’s native British Columbia.

In 1975, Pattison launched Canada’s first Transit Shelter advertising network in Vancouver. Through 1981-82, Pattison acquired Hook Signs in Alberta and Gould Outdoor in Southwest Ontario. He acquired Trans Ad, the leader in Canadian Transit Advertising, which established The Jim Pattison Group as Canada’s pre-eminent Transit Advertising company. In 1988, The Jim Pattison Group acquired Pillar Ad, it’s first major foothold in the Toronto market, beginning over two decades of aggressive expansion in Toronto. In 1998, Pattison Outdoor Advertising was formed with the branding of all The Jim Pattison Outdoor companies under this one name.

Innovation and growth continued with the launch of vinyl-wrapped buses in Canada in 1981, the acquisition of Onestop Media Group and the 2012 awarding of the Toronto

The growth of Pattison Outdoor continues today with the 2018 acquisition of IMA Outdoor, which represents Metrolinx’s GO Train advertising, as well as poster and digital inventory throughout Toronto’s PATH system.

Previous recipients of the Merit Award include Randy Otto, President of Pattison Outdoor; John Jory, former President of Clear Channel Canada; Rosanne Caron, President of the Canadian Outdoor Measurement and Marketing Board (COMBB) and Jordana Fatsis, Executive Vice President at Atedra and former Vice President of Outdoor at Astral Outdoor, a division of Bell Media.

The Advertising Club of Toronto Out-of-Home Day event runs from 11:00am to 4:00pm on October 19, 2018 at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto.. In addition to Mr. Pattison’s attendance and Merit Award presentation, there will be a keynote speech by Spencer Dingle and Jordan Hamer, Associate Creative Directors from Cossette, to discuss the agency’s work for McDonald’s, which was the first Canadian campaign in a decade to win a Grand Prix at the Cannes Festival of Creativity.
