The Spanish press is reporting that GSMA, the organiser of the Mobile World Congress will have to return 9.5 million euros if the event is cancelled.

It appears that Central Government, Generalitat and the City Council gave the organisers 9.5M Euros last June in a formal agreement with the Mobile World Capital Foundation intended to “reinforce and reaffirm Barcelona as the host city of Mobile”.

However, the contract has a clause in, which it was determined that, if it was not finally held in that city for any reason, GSMA would have to reimburse the Foundation for the established contribution.

Spanish media are continuing to insist that the large telecommunications operators and companies in the sector are continuing to pressure the organisers to postpone #MWC2021 to the last quarter of the year, when the vaccination process is more well advanced.
