JCDecaux today announced that it has received certification from Climate Active for Australia’s first carbon neutral Out-of-Home advertising product across Transit.

I’m delighted that we’re leading the industry with the first Out-of-Home sustainable advertising solution in Australia with our Transit bus and tram products, certified by Climate Active. Now, when media agencies and brands choose our in-house printing service GSP for their Transit campaigns, they will automatically be part of the solution in driving change and making a difference to the environment. With sustainability high on the agenda for customers, it is now more crucial than ever for brands and media buyers to consider this in their advertising plans to gain increased customer loyalty. There is no opt-in required or additional cost to Transit partners when using GSP. All parts of the Transit product are certified carbon neutral. With the growing concern among many consumers around sustainability, we are continuing our work this year to offer further sustainable media solutions, as we endeavour to be a socially responsible business.”
JCDecaux has selected two Indigenous carbon projects to offset the Transit carbon neutral product – the Thaa-Nguigarr Carbon Project and the Nyaliga Fire Project. The Thaa-Nguigarr Carbon Project, Emissions Reducing Fund Project, is an early dry season Savanna burning project aimed at reducing late dry season wildfires, and therefore reducing carbon emissions. The Nyaliga Fire Project is a registered savanna burning carbon project with burning operations carried out in line with traditional indigenous knowledge and practice.
JCDecaux was the first Out-of-Home media company globally to join the RE100, a worldwide organisation that advocates for a commitment to 100 per cent renewable energy. In Australia and New Zealand JCDecaux is the first media company to commit to this and means the entire network, including offices, will be powered by 100 per cent renewable electricity in 2022.
In Australia, JCDecaux has been a proud certified carbon neutral business since 2015 through Climate Active, an Australian Government organisation that certifies Australian businesses as carbon neutral. It is also working to achieve carbon zero status in New Zealand.
Globally JCDecaux has had sustainability as a core part of its business since inception in France in 1964. In 2014 JCDecaux renewed its commitment to sustainable development through the implementation of its Sustainable Development Strategy. Priorities are across three components – environment, social and stakeholder, and include reducing energy consumption, reducing environmental impacts, and strengthening employee commitment toward sustainable development. Last year JCDecaux also appointed Lénaïc Pineau as Chief Sustainability & Quality Officer.
