UK based LED Studio has successfully performed a test flight of a drone-mounted ultra-thin and transparent mesh curtain LED display.
Rob Bint, CEO of LED Studio, was quoted as saying “As a company that lives and breathes innovation in LED, we’re always looking at what new mediums, formats or technologies will define the future of visual experience. Drone-lifted LED curtains are one of those concepts that stretch the boundaries of what’s possible. They have the potential to change how we approach events, live shows and even architectural storytelling. Our role as a company isn’t just to build displays; it’s to lead the conversation about where LED can go, and how it can reshape the spaces and skies around us.”
Weighing just 1.2 kg per sq. m., the LED curtain features a slim mesh to reduce drone load and support stable flight, engineered with up to 70% transparency and high wind permeability for reliable use in outdoor, low-altitude conditions.
The mesh has a 50,000 hour lifespan and IP65-rated protection for long-term outdoor use. The structure can fold and roll down to a compact volume of 90 sq. m. per cubic metre to minimise transport and labour requirements.
The system supports scalable configurations through multi-piece splicing, with standard screen sizes ranging from 2×4 metres up to 4×10 metres for use with large-format displays.
Content can be uploaded and managed through several control options, including a dedicated app, USB, live WiFi, or 4G with one-click programme sending for integration with pre-scheduled and live content delivery systems.
The display we understand is compatible with RF5 drone models, supporting payloads of up to 50 kilograms BUT sadly only with a flight endurance of up to 20 minutes to enable choreographed flyovers and synchronised visuals as part of live shows or promotional campaigns.
