Arlington, Virginia-based National Datacast Inc., a national provider of point-to-multipoint digital media connectivity, will be demonstrating its service at the Jacob K. Javits Center during the Digital Signage Show/KioskCom, Nov. 10-11/09 in New York.

The company plans to show how its national content delivery datacasting network system with integrated return channel options for digital connectivity can provide easy, rapid deployment and operating costs that, the company claims, are typically 40% lower than other connectivity options.

“National Datacast capabilities are extremely well-suited to digital signage and digital out-of-home networks,” says Jacqueline Weiss, CEO of National Datacast.

Lyle Bunn, principal and strategy architect, BUNN Co., Brighton, Ont., says that 45% of the 1,200 respondents of a recent Digital Signage Association survey noted that their displays were not connected, and a further 18% said, “Some are – some aren’t.”

“This indicates that many installations are not enjoying the economies or flexibility of DS,” says Bunn. “The ‘sneaker-net’ approach, which means that very likely playlist/content refresh is minimal and that connectivity may be too difficult or costly, suggests the high value datacasting.”

Datacasting offers rapid, low-cost content delivery, connectivity installation, ongoing operating economies and flexibility through its national digital, Internet protocol-based network.

The showcase will include a fully configured digital signage deployment using Scala InfoChannel media management software, DTV enabled Dell netbook, HP laptop and other elements. Content such as media files, RSS and a television broadcast signal will be distributed by WNET, one of over 100 digital distribution centers in the National Datacast network. Backhaul for playout compliance reporting will be provided via Scala’s server in a Web-based platform, accessed via cellular broadband.

As a digital media connectivity platform, National Datacast services are compatible with media management software and other elements of the digital signage technology ecosystem, including already deployed digital signage networks.

The company will be giving its demonstration at Booth 201.
