Gail Chiasson, North American Editor

Pattison Outdoor, one of Canada’s largest out-of-home advertising companies, recently installed two 14’ x 48’ Digital Spectaculars on the west end of the Gardiner Expressway, just east of the Highway 427 off ramp, that reach millions of commuters travelling into and out of downtown Toronto.

pattisonThe Digital Spectaculars surpass the industry standard in image quality, providing what Pattison claims is the best reproduction of colour available anywhere in North America. Digital Spectaculars can portray an infinite variety of messages using LED lighting to produce desired colours and images. By altering the intensity of the three RGB colours of the diodes in the pixels, trillions of colours are produced.

“Our Digital Spectaculars provide optimal exposure with excellent sight lines and visibility provided by state-of-the-art digital technology,” says Bob Leroux, Pattison’s vice-president, central region. “By offering advertisers the highest pixel count available in the industry, Pattison Outdoor delivers significantly superior image clarity than that of any other outdoor company in Canada.”

Production is virtually eliminated as all creative design changes can be accomplished with a simple jpeg, resulting in an enhanced customer service experience and product innovation, plus relatively lower costs.

Adrian – You can’t complain about Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V and then publish a story like this.

“By altering the intensity of the three RGB colours of the diodes in the pixels, trillions of colours are produced.” – You mean it’s an LED screen then?

“By offering advertisers the highest pixel count…” – What is the pixel size? Is it smaller than other screens? Where’s the journalism we’re used to?

This does feel like a press release rather than a news story…

  2. Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief Says:

Of course we can complain about aka.tv copying the bulk of their stories from another site! There’s a big difference between copying what someone else has written and using a press release (designed for the purpose of explaining the story and copying the sound bites) to write a story around.

You have also picked in Gail, the only true journalist on our team, well experienced and with decades of experience.

The lines you picked out were in italics and were quotes MADE by Bob Leroux which of course were copied verbatim.

It’s obvious reading the story that it has been well put together from a well written press release. If you find that story similar on another site or in another publication then it is PLAGIARISM short and simple.

OK – you’re right, one of them was an italicised quote, but the first one wasn’t! It just didn’t feel like one of your normal insightful investigations around a press release.
