Sticky: Scala Lite Coming Soon?

Andrew Neale

We hear that Scala recently hosted a UK Partner event (23rd November at the Foxhills Country Club in Surrey) together with NEC (who provided some really nice U-Touch driven interactive screens as well). Shame we were not invited.

The event was very well attended with well over 35 people crowded into the library room. Scala apparently focused on the continued strong performance of the company globally and particularly in the UK, as well as key new functionality in their recent Scala 5 release, and gave some tidbits on what is coming in their next release.

We are told however that one of the highlights of the day was the brief demonstration of Scala ‘lite’ – an offering by all accounts that seemed to appeal to their partners present on the day. Apparently this product (though it is unlikely to be called Scala Lite) is going to be linked to their SaaS offering. We would guess that it is built upon the Scala API architecture and will be targeted to single output players, so probably for 1-10 player type of projects.

It will be interesting to see this in detail but it does indicate that Scala continues to innovate. We understand this lower functionality and lower priced offering, which has its own custom interface, was running via a WIMAX network operated by UK Broadband, on an Ibase media Player.

Must be innovative and worthy of no ones time the fact that DISE have had a “lite ” version from a few years back and is fully functional

As probably the worlds most prolific user of Scala( >4500 licenses) I find the Gentlemen from DISE’s comment rather cheap and inappropriate.
    Well done Scala, again.
