Apptera Raises $10 Million in Venture Capital

Mobile advertising company Apptera [1] of San Bruni, California, has raised $10 million in venture capital funding, noted via a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission [2].

The startup’s previous financing round was in Nov., 2008, also totalling about $10 million and coming from investors such as Alloy Ventures [3], Lightspeed Venture Partners [4], and Walden International [5], and this had followed financing of $9.74 million raised in 2007.

According to TechCrunch [6] which reported on the new financing, Apptera has yet to publicly disclose the new capital injection, but these types of follow-on rounds typically come from existing backers, with maybe one or two additional investors.

Founded in 2001, Apptera operates what it refers to as a ‘Voice & Visual Mobile Advertising Network’, enabling the company to dynamically serve voice ads to callers and enhancing those calls with interactive visual engagements. Callers can opt-in to voice ads and have special offers such as coupons and promotional codes, videos, even maps and directions sent directly to their phones, immediately or at a future scheduled time.
