We first saw Hiperwall back in June 2009 at InfoComm [1] in Orlando. It was being shown on the Samsung stand (and even poorly explained by Samsung staff it was an impressive sight).
[2]The Samsung deal was the startup’s first and most recently (Feb 2010) they have inked another partnership deal with Ingram Micro. Our technical team had a catch up call with CEO Jeff Greenberg [3] yesterday and learnt a little bit more about their plans for the future.
A couple of things that caught our eye in the upcoming version 1.2 which has just gone into Beta were…
- They’ve added a scheduler
- They’ve added a web services interface which seems like a very useful feature. It will effectively allow various auxiliary controls to be added to the system (anything that can make http requests can become an auxilary control). This also gives external support for Creston devices, iPad’s, in fact any sort of 3rd party controls that you might want to program an interface for.
- Using the above there’s also a nice utility that allows a user to paint a GUI on the screen and then that computer acts as a wall controller
When you think that something like Christie Digital’s Vista Spyder [4] product (probably the most direct competitor to what this can do) tops out we think at supporting 8 million pixels whereas Hiperwall can easily support 200 million pixels (and even that’s not a limit) you get some idea of the power of its parallel computing approach to building video walls (often out of low cost screens).
