ScreenMedia This, That And The Other

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

Lionel Tepper, Managing Director, Digital Signage Universe reached out to us Monday to tell us that he has relaunched his website. New name (well sort of, see below) and new URL. Lionel tells us “We have broadened our focus to include location-based mobile technology and related information”.

And the name of this new entity? ScreenMedia Daily which we are told “Provides In-Depth Coverage of Digital Out-of-Home Media and Convergent Technologies” which can be found at www.screenmediadaily.com

This fascination with the term ‘ScreenMedia’ (note the CamelCase cos’ they all copying that here as well) is fun to watch from the sidelines. First the DSA shoehorn the word in their title, allowing them to keep the acronym DSA, after the Digital Signage Association and the Self-Service & Kiosk Association merged back in June. and they of course use the URL www.digitalscreenmedia.org

Mark Pigou, owner of ScreenMediaExpo which will be in its 6th year in 2011 first published a magazine called ScreenMedia magazine 5 years ago. We heard a while back also that his other investments – DDR Magazine and online portal screens.tv – are being re-branded (wait for it) as: ScreenMedia Magazine and ScreenMediaMag which makes perfect sense to bring it in line with the brand that he, more than anyone else, owns.

Who said ingenuity was dead? In fact things have almost gone full circle. Interestingly enough the URL for Dave Haynes’ site 16:9, one of the online blogging pioneers, back in February 2006 was screenmedia.wordpress.com

Dave was quick to point out that he’s not taking the blame for inventing the name “It was what people seemed to be using the most that week.” he told us!

And whilst we are on the subject of re-branding and name changes etc. For those who want to take a look at what a new version of DigitalSignageToday might look like take a look here.

    Nice transition for DSU.

Digital Signage Today gets beaten to the punch on the use of the “S” word that their owners borrowed for DSA months ago: deliciously ironic.
