IBC’s Digital Signage Zone :(

Chris Sheldrake

Whilst DailyDOOH senior management stayed at home, the minions were sent undercover to IBC’s Digital Signage Zone to take notes on the zone itself and the Business Briefings that also took place.

The digital signage zone was tiny, about 8 small booths, a few screens here and there and the meeting room.

Those vendors who asked us whether they should attend will be pleased to know that our recommendation to stay away was the correct call.

Here’s yet another show trying to add DS to the mix without the requisite skills or support of the industry. The idea to do a ‘roped-off’ area and then demonstrate how little support they actually had was then madness.

The only interesting technology on display in this zone was the (relatively) new 103 inch LCD screen from Panasonic with a U-touch overlay. We have written about this before but as with sound showers the only way to get a feel for it is to see it in action and touch it. We have to say that the interactive experience on such a large screen is REALLY impressive.

Mind you the cost of screen + overlay is estimated at something like 80,000 Euros so it is not for the faint hearted.

What about the technology presented by SpinetiX… I think it is great, even if I am a bit biased 🙂

Sounds like I need to withdraw my previous comment on the relative size of the 103″ touch screen and the average human arm! I can’t wait to see it for real at ISE…
