Starbucks Digital Network

Seattle–based Starbucks [1] has launched Starbucks Digital Network, a joint venture with Yahoo! [2], in all its 6,800 company-operated U.S. stores, with the aim of making the coffeehouse experience even more enjoyable.

Customers are able to access the content via free Wi-Fi on laptops, tablets and smartphones. News, entertainment and lifestyle content is free exclusively in Starbucks stores.

The service will feature promotional offers, such as free music tracks, a preview excerpt from a novel, or a movie clip with a charitable tie-in. Social network LinkedIn [3] will also contribute a business-centered blog.

Visitors can get breaking news and more with free access to subscription editions of The Wall Street Journal [4], The New York Times [5] and USA Today [6]; can listen to music from Apple [7] and Starbucks Entertainment [8]; get exclusive iTunes downloads; read Zagat [9] reviews and ratings for free.

Content providers include Yahoo!, Apple’s iTunes Store [7], Nick Jr. [10], SnagFilms [11], The New York Times, WSJ.com, USA Today, Bookish Reading Club [12], Foursquare [13], GOOD [14], LinkedIn, New Word City [15] and The Weather Channel [16].
