The Autonomous Province of Trento in Italy is continuing deployment of SMART Board interactive whiteboards from Calgary-based SMART Technologies throughout its schools.

Earlier this year, SMART – through its local dealer, EduTech, and its Italian distributor, InterVideo – was awarded a tender by the province to install 1,500 SMART Board interactive whiteboards in 400 primary and secondary schools throughout the region. The aim of the tender was to create engaging, interactive classrooms for improved student outcomes across all grades.

Most of the 1,500 interactive whiteboards have now been installed and follow several earlier installations made between 2005 and 2008 on tenders that were also won by SMART. During those years, SMART installed approximately 700 SMART Board interactive whiteboards as part of a regional government program created to support the introduction of
interactive whiteboards for didactics.

To date, the province has installed SMART Board interactive whiteboards in over 60% of its classrooms. With some 2,000 units, this is the largest installation of interactive whiteboards in an Italian province.

The Province of Trento is an autonomous province of Italy and often referred to simply as Trentino. The province is divided into 223 municipalities, and has over 100 primary and secondary schools catering to more than 63,800 students.

Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s CEO, says, “Through a strong focus on teacher professional development, the province is undertaking the deployment in a way that is designed to make the most of the teaching and learning value that our products deliver.”
