The First Of The Gang To Die

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

The first, pretty large in this instance, US based Digital Signage vendor has bitten the dust. These guys burnt through an awful lot of money, and we mean an AWFUL lot of money so it’s no surprise to us that mismanagement, poor financial acumen and crazy spending has meant that they have gone and unfortunately with the loss of all jobs.

We are sure there will be more news later this week.

They may be the first but they definitely won’t be the last.

  1. Steve Says:

    So who was it?

  2. Roger Dean Says:

Yeah, come on Adrian, let’s have the whole story, or is this the start of a DOOH competition with a prize of a Ferrari to the winner?

  3. Darren Briggs Says:

    Who is the unfortunate company?

  4. Steve Says:

    If it is a 599 I’ll take a guess, 3M

  5. Darren Briggs Says:

TELentice? – Do I get the Ferrari? (in black please)

  6. DailyDOOH Says:

3M must surely be likely to dispose of their digital signage offering – cos’ they don’t do anything with it 😉 which is such a shame; as a brand like 3M could do real (good) damage to the industry if it were to play with a 100% enthusiasm and commitment. It’s not 3M and it’s not TELentice (as an emailer also just asked us)

  7. Steve Says:

    Guess 2 Alive Promo?

  8. Darren Briggs Says:

    Surely not Broadsign?

  9. DailyDOOH Says:

and NOT Broadsign either – we would describe Broadsign as a “Canadian” software vendor – surely all the best digital signage software is written in Canada?

  10. Red Says:

    Scala? 🙂

  11. H Says:

“surely all the best digital signage software is written in Canada?”
what a blow to the americans..

It’s a pity digital is still slow to grasp. Aw well, good things never come easy.

  12. DailyDOOH Says:

NOT Scala and leave off those SMILEY FACES when you write that !!!!

  13. Anonymous Coward Says:

    Gotta be RNIN.

  14. Luis Villafane Says:

Darren, not telentice mate, you man of poor faith… If I were to guess I would say Ronin

  15. DailyDOOH Says:

Definitely not Ronin – they safe for the being at least 😉

  16. tellertv Says:

We know that Focus Enhancements (http://www.focusinfo.com/) has filed this week which is a biggie and also many goings on over at Ronin suggests that all is not well.

  17. Darren Briggs Says:

Sorry Luis … just think what an opportunity Maler would have?! So Adrian, come on you’ve had your debate! Spill the beans …

  18. Just a guess,,, Says:

    Is it Planar / CoolSign?

  19. Adrian J Cotterill Says:

Whilst Planar’s hardware screen business struggles, Coolsign seems okay and if rumours are true they (Coolsign) have won a lot of Titan Outdoor business – in the US at least, so NO it’s not them!!

  20. vince Says:

Focus is not really in the DS business…they have tried with failure products. It has to be Ronin….how could it not be considereing how much money they have lost.

  21. Adrian J Cotterill Says:

Folks, it is definitely NOT Ronin though they are obviously going to struggle over the next few months.

  22. http://justinclupper.blogspot.com/ Says:

    So who?!

    Adrian….this is just mean… 😉

  23. Just a guess,,, Says:

Is it Levelvision or possibly RDM?

  24. Adrian J Cotterill Says:

It’s NOT Levelvision or Real Digital Media (RDM) – bigger than that!!!

  25. Red Says:

    ScreenRed?

  26. Adrian J Cotterill Says:

ScreenRed is a tiny part of John Ryan, we are talking about a big well-invested US company here, so NO not ScreenRed

  27. Albert Says:

The suspense is killing me,….. I really wonder who it is. Could it be one of the Top 10 DS companies listed in http://www.dailydooh.com/archives/727 (minus the non-U.S. based companies)…..

  28. Just a guess... Says:

Okay, my final thoughts… while it is well known that many companies are having difficulties, particularly in this current economic environment, there are only a few that come to mind that qualify as “big.”

If it’s a Video Advertising Network, there’s a long list of companies that it could be. They are all having difficulty with almost 70% of their available advertising space going unsold. If it’s in this space I would put the following companies on the list: Indoor Direct, Buzztime, Screenvision, Ripple, Captivate, Channel M, Sill Indoor Media… they all have problems, and I could add even more to this categories list.

If it’s hardware and software, there are only a few that fit the “big” category… My final guess… is it Harris? or Chyron?

  29. vince Says:

    so when is the annoucement?

  30. vince Says:

    VISIX?

  31. Just a guess,,, Says:

Okay Adrian, I’ve got my bag pipes out and I’m ready to play a durge. So spill the beans already…

  32. Anonymous Says:

If I had to guess, it’d be Reflect Systems.

  33. Adrian J Cotterill Says:

It’s NOT reflect systems BUT you are getting warmer, much warmer!!!

  34. Anonymous Coward Says:

Is my anonymous brethren closer because of the proximity to Reflect’s headquarters?

  35. Just a guess... Says:

Oh brother, I hope this isn’t true… It sounds like you’re saying its either
PRN, In-Store Media Networks, or In-Store Broadcasting Networks.

    I hope I’m wrong!

  36. dsman Says:

Ok I help you a bit: their name starts with R….
Hurry up for the Ferrari !

  37. Adrian J Cotterill Says:

dsman is spot on – you are all so close now!!!

  38. Anonymous Says:

    RMS Networks?

  39. Daniel Zimmerman Says:

    RMS Networks? Real Digital Media?

  40. Just a guess... Says:

    Retail Path Networks?

    RMS Network?

    Rise Vision?

    Roku?

    RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

  41. dsman Says:

    none of the 4.

  42. Do I win? Says:

    Ripple, right, really?

  43. Adrian J Cotterill Says:

Just how many folks’ businesses start with R ?

    it;s not Ripple

  44. Just a guess... Says:

    Reactrix Systems?

  45. Adrian J Cotterill Says:

well that was fun wasn’t it? thanks for all the comments, You could well be right !!!!!

  46. vince Says:
