Aztec’s Use Of MicroTiles A Clear Success

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

When we were the first non-employee, non-parent company folks to see a MicroTile turned on almost three and a half years ago in their labs in Kitchener in Canada and when we subsequently helped Christie figure out what markets it could possibly sell into, ‘rental / staging’ was one of the sectors (along with the likes of command and control, digital out of home and in architecture) but we did not think the sector would be as successful as it has become for the product.

Aztec Event Services MD John Robson told us “The tiles are becoming very popular at high profile events, and are recognised by exhibitors and stand designers as something very desirable. We even had other AV companies cross-hiring the tiles from us as well!”

We understand that their Christie MicroTiles (Aztec have well over 100 MicroTiles we understand) have been booked out solid throughout the whole of June for events across Europe; including Milan, Paris, London and Manchester.

John continued “Our clients have chosen to use Christie MicroTiles over seamless LCD panels for a variety of reasons. These include the fact that Christie MicroTiles self-calibrate for colour and brightness, and detect the surrounding tiles, saving time and frustration during event setup. The colour reproduction is 50% better than standard LCD displays, and each tile has 70-fold more pixels than equivalent LED panels, producing pin-sharp images.”

UK Radiological Congress 2011 held Monday 6 – Wednesday 8 June, Manchester Central Convention Centre. Content of scanning hardware, scans and similar images was created by Siemens in HD format and output to the MicroTiles. Aztec provided and rigged 48 tiles (8 wide x 6 high).
