Thomas Nielsen New RealNetworks’ CEO

Thomas Nielsen will join RealNetworks Inc. Nov. 9/11 as president and CEO of the digital media company, becoming, at the same time, a member of RealNetworks’ board of directors.

Among its many products: RealPlayer, GameHouse, SuperPass and more, are its Mobile Entertainment and Mobile Messaging. Its Mobile Entertainment makes it possible for millions of mobile subscribers to browse, purchase, and experience digital entertainment whenever and wherever they want. Some of the world’s largest mobile operators and enterprises look to Real for innovative, reliable mobile entertainment solutions they can deliver to their customers with confidence. And with its Mobile Messaging, more than 600 mobile telecom brands trust Real to provide world-class messaging services with elements of fun, personalization and interoperability.

Mike Lunsford has served as interim CEO since Mar./11, stepping into a vacancy created by the departure of Bob Kimball. Lunsford will remain with RealNetworks in a senior capacity.

Nielsen joins RealNetworks from Adobe Systems, where he was vice-president of the Digital Imaging Group, the business unit which includes Photoshop, Elements and Lightroom, in addition to mobile, web and tablet solutions. Nielsen previously spent five years at Microsoft in the digital media space.
