ITU Workshop On Digital Signage, Tokyo

There are close to 250 people in the room here in Tokyo for the ITU Workshop on Digital Signage [1].

The workshop was put together by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), Japan and the ITU.

[3]It’s a two day event (from 13 to 14 December 2011) taking place at the Akiba Hall (5th Floor of Akiba Plaza), Tokyo, Japan.

The opening ceremony was conducted by Dr. Hamadoun TOURÉ (ITU, Secretary-General) – shown below right over video link, together with Kimiaki MATSUZAKI (Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan, State secretary for Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications) and Ichiya NAKAMURA (Digital Signage Consortium in Japan, President).

[4]The workshop is aimed at sharing ideas and at providing insight on advanced digital signage service features and requirements, current best practices and existing standardization activities of key players.

The workshop also aims at sharing digital signage service use cases and common challenges to the widespread deployment of the digital signage service as a new service over broadband networks.

The keynote speech was a joint effort between Simão CAMPOS (ITU-T SG16 counselor): ITU and digital signage and Ichiya NAKAMURA (Digital Signage Consortium in Japan, President) on the ‘Standardization on digital signage’.

[5]Other sessions included ‘The purpose of standardization on digital signage’, ‘Digital Signage with Android Devices and a certain Dirk HUELSERMANN (OVAB Europe President).

Dirk (shown here to the right on the stage), whose presentation was entitled ‘OVAB Europe – One voice for the Digital Signage Industry in Europe‘ was invited to speak by the ITU and the (Japanese) Digital Signage Consortium.
