X2O Portal Supports 3rd Party Digital Signage Players

X2O Media this week announced that it will introduce its new ‘Open Content Management Framework’ initiative at #dse2012 – on booth 823. The X2O Portal will be supporting players from partners Exceptional 3D and Frame Jazz to demonstrate the benefits of this.

With ‘Open Content Management Framework’ third-party manufacturers of digital signage players will be able to integrate with the X2O Portal’s content management tools after certification by X2O.

X2O Media President and CEO David Wilkins told us “The opening of the X2O Portal for integration with third-party partner players is a strategic move in our effort to display any content on any screen, anywhere. The X2O Portal will continue to support our own players, but now networks utilizing players from other makers have access to all the benefits of our powerful content management platform.”

The free, multi-platform open source media player OpenSplash (that can of course be driven by any content management and scheduling system) would be ideal to plug in and be certified in such a manner by X2O, and we’d hope that if David and his team are serious about ‘openness’ they will work hard at integrating and certifying as soon as possible.

The X2O Portal is described as a ‘comprehensive cloud-based platform for managing and scheduling all content on digital signage networks of any size’ and now third-party manufacturers of digital signage players have access to a comprehensive user management system that allows digital signage network administrators to define user roles and permissions, limiting access to specific portal features, player locations, and content; it also provides them with real-time data feed management tools.

The new combined solution supports most industry-standard formats and protocols such as HTTP, SSL, FTP, XML, and RSS.
