We learned of a new company yesterday, based in Montreal and co-founded by Kamran Ahmed, CEO, and Stéphane Tramblay, CTO.

Stéphane Tremblay; Kamran Ahmed

Aptovision is a privately held corporation (with some venture capital backing) that is focused on delivering licensable technologies for current and next generation audio-video (AV) signal processing and distribution systems.

While Aptovision is a new company, Ahmed and Tremblay, are well recognized in their field.

A computer engineer, Ahmed brings over 15 years of experience in product management, technical marketing and sales management of products which have collectively generated over $1 billion in revenues to date. He spent seven years at Matrox Graphics during which he held several positions in product management and technical marketing including heading Matrox’s product management team. Following Matrox, he spent three years leading the North American and European sales operations for SolVision (now Zygo Canada) and then moved on to lead the international sales operations at Magenta Research for three years.

An electrical engineer, Tremblay has over 17 years of experience in high-speed graphics, video, FPGA and hardware design of products representing well over $1 billion in revenues during their lifetime. He has successfully led several R&D teams and has been the individual behind the conception and execution of products which have gained worldwide attention and success in their respective markets. His career includes 14 years at Matrox Graphics during which he led several hardware design teams. Before co-founding AptoVision, he also held key positions at Magenta Research as director of R&D and Muxlab as CTO. He holds multiple US and international patents in graphics technology.

Aptovision’s first product is BlueRiver 100, a cost-effective fiber-optic AV extension. Available as licensable IP with reference designs, the BlueRiver 100 enables a plug and play, point-to-point, fiber-optic extender or link for extending hi-definition video, audio, IR, Ethernet and RS-232 signals over standard fiber-optic cabling.

”We are developing technology for fibre optics AV signal distribution,” says Ahmed. “Our technology provides higher performance and lower cost than existing products. We are licensing our technology.

“We will provide reference designs. Companies can send them to their production teams or integrate them into their equipment.”

Incorporating AptoVision’s BlueRiver Engine, ACR and Channel Coder technology, the BlueRiver 100 delivers world class performance and reliability on off-the-shelf, inexpensive components. The resulting bill of materials is a fraction of the cost of custom fiber-optic transceivers typically used for AV extension. AptoVision’s unique licensing model and reliance on off-the-shelf components allows customers to maintain full control over manufacturing, production quality and supply chain.

“We founded Aptovision in 2011 and are building staff,” says Ahmed. “We expect to have about 10 employees by the end of this year.”

Ahmed and Tremblay will be attending #InfoComm12 to introduce their offer with potential clients. They can be reached at 514-908-9768; kahmed@aptovision; stremblay@aptovision.
