Canadian Blood Services – ScreenScape Place-based Media Initiative

Canadian Blood Services [1] is partnering with ScreenScape [2], Charlottetown, to develop a place-based media network that will power digital displays at 40-plus permanent collection sites and bring its messaging to their donors and staff across Canada.

[3]Canadian Blood Services is a national, not-for-profit charitable organization that manages the supply of blood and blood products in all provinces and territories outside of Quebec.

ScreenScape bills itself as an online service for engaging audiences inside real world places. It helps marketing-savvy organizations to optimize the use of digital media to reach audiences in specific places. Using a ScreenScape Group, Canadian Blood Services will also be able to distribute educational and promotional messaging to its office locations and permanent donor clinics in cities across the country.

“We see this as an opportunity to engage with Canadians in new ways and in new places,” says Steve Harding, executive director, development, Canadian Blood Services. “They have made this kind of technology easy to deploy, easy to use and entirely accessible to organizations like ours.”

All ScreenScape customers share a common technology infrastructure. As an open platform, ScreenScape offers Canadian Blood Services the opportunity to connect with its other members, known collectively as the ScreenScape Community.

“We are also excited by the potential which the ScreenScape Community offers us to communicate with Canadians in public places, like medical centres, shopping malls, local skating rinks, and so on,” says Harding. “We see all kinds of potential to use this technology in conjunction with our community partners to encourage more Canadians to rally together to save lives.”

Kevin Dwyer, ScreenScape president and CEO, says, “We see many great examples of ScreenScape being used to educate and inform patients, and to complement the delivery of healthcare services. This one is special given the life-saving nature of the work and the great public service that Canadian Blood Services provides. It’s an honour and a privilege to be working with Canadian Blood Services to help them pursue their mandate and we encourage all members of the ScreenScape Community to subscribe to their content to extend the power and reach of this network.”
