And The First Into Bed With Intel Is…

There have been rumours for 12 months or more that Intel was seriously looking at the digital signage space. We know of a couple of content companies that have been doing work for them but no one was really sure if (a) they were serious and (b) what, if any, announcements would ever get made!

Whilst this is, per se, not an Intel announcement nor is Intel getting into the digital signage space it’ss interesting because STRATACACHE here have become the first technology vendor that Intel has done any sort of announcement with…

STRATACACHE Debuts Next Generation Media Player Utilizing Intel® Technology

Intel® Atom™ Processor Provides Horsepower

for New STRATACACHE SPECTRA S-210 Media Player

New York, NY, January 12, 2009—At NRF’s 98th Annual Convention and Expo STRATACACHE (NRF booth #2365) announced today the availability of its new SPECTRA S-210 media player powered by the Intel® Atom™ processor. STRATACACHE worked to integrate the powerful and efficient Atom processor into the SPECTRA S-210—a versatile, full-featured media player.

The Intel Atom processor facilitates the use of advanced SPECTRA software modules that are CPU-intensive, including audience measurement, interactive merchandising, multilayer content playout, bluecasting and 3D gestural controls. Supported on both Windows and Linux, the Intel® architecture (IA) lowers the total cost of ownership for end users and speeds the time to market for significant new player features.

“The SPECTRA S-210 represents the first in a series of next generation STRATACACHE media players for 2009 and beyond,” says Steve Bannister, STRATACACHE VP of Engineering. “Digital media displays are evolving dramatically to help advertisers and merchants qualify their results, and the SPECTRA S-210 delivers the cutting-edge features and capabilities our customers are demanding for their next generation digital signage networks.”

The SPECTRA S-210 is one of the smallest player platforms, measuring 7.5″ x 6″ x 1.5”. The media player is small yet powerful, with multi-use capabilities including digital signage, IP-BTV, live streaming, video on demand, and interactive kiosks. Coupled with the enhanced capacity and performance from the Intel Atom processor, the fanless S-210 provides exceptional reliability, efficiency and control over digital signage networks.

The Atom processor is Intel’s smallest chip built with world’s smallest transistors. Newly designed from the ground up on 45nm technology, the Intel Atom processors pack an astounding 47 million transistors on a single chip measuring less than 26mm², making them Intel’s smallest and lowest power processors.

Intel is also exhibiting at NRF and will be in booth #2717.

We believe that there is a little bit more to this announcement than meets the eye!!
