In a sign of the worsening situation in retail – the organisers of the Retail Business Show in the UK have pulled the plug on the event. The show was due to take place at London’s Olympia Exhibition Hall on 28/29th January 2009.

The company behind the show, Retail Events Ltd has experienced a growing wave of cancellations from its regular exhibitors, particularly whilst the sector has tightened over the last weeks. The firm has been forced to call in the liquidators – and the show, the conferences and the awards have all been cancelled.

The Screen Forum had been planning to hold a ‘Digital Signage Conference’ at the event – and this event will now also not take place. The Screen Forum will however still hold its ‘Breakfast Briefing’ seminar at The Hospital Club on Wednesday 28th January.

The event, titled ‘Retail Theatre’, will feature talks from CBS Outdoor, Sony Professional, MoodMedia & N-Store. The organisers have also suggested that they may look to expand the event in order to incorporate more of the planned speakers from its conference.
