Mobile services firm mBlox has named Tom Cotney Jr. to the position of CEO, filling the role being handled on an interim basis by Steve Love, COO.

Cotney will be responsible for leading mBlox into new growth areas for mobile engagement. He will focus on expanding mBlox’s global scale and product range, driving growth through geographical expansion into major new markets and new product offerings in the fast growing mobile market. He will drive service efficiencies, and enhance the quality of service for which mBlox is known in the industry.

“I am thrilled to return to Silicon Valley and continue my career in the mobile sector with a company that has the scale and reputation of mBlox,” said Cotney. “Very few of the many players will be long-term players in a competitive market where it’s not sufficient to just service demand, but where you need to lead with innovation. I saw the ability to lead the market in the people at mBlox and in the investors behind it. This company will be a power player for the long haul.”

Cotney has held a number of senior positions, most recently as board advisor to Catavolt Inc., a B2B enterprise mobility company. Prior to that he was the chief executive for Air2Web where he successfully transformed the company’s business model before its acquisition by Velti PLC. Cotney was also the general manager of IBM’s business processing outsourcing division in the Americas, and head of its communications sector prior to that. Both businesses exceeded $1 billion in revenue.
