Gail Chiasson, North American Editor

Qualcomm Inc.’s subsidiary, Qualcomm Atheros Inc., has introduced a new ultra-low power Near Field Communication solution that will enable mobile devices with contactless communications and data exchange, including next-generation mobile payments.

The company claims that the QCA1990 is the industry’s smallest, ultra-low power system-on-chip with an overall footprint that is 50% smaller than current NFC chips available in the market.

This follows recent news that Qualcomm Inc. has taken a $120 million equity in Sharp Corp., and will collaborate on resource-efficient device screens.
