Remote Media exits from end user business

How’s this for confidence then? Remote media have exited from all end user business!!

I think my take on this may be slightly different to others…

PRESS RELEASE
9th January 2008

RGB add signagelive web based software to complete digital signage repertoire

RGB Communications are delighted to announce that they have been appointed as the exclusive UK and Ireland AV distributor of Remote Media’s signagelive® digital signage software and hardware.

Unlike other digital signage software solutions, signagelive® is a SaaS (software-as-a-service) solution, providing everything you need to control and manage your digital signage network from your web browser at the ‘click of a mouse’ anywhere in the world.

signagelive® from Remote Media is an award winning digital signage platform providing the simplest and most cost effective solution for management of multi-site digital signage networks.

signagelive® has been developed in conjunction with the UK’s leading retailers, media and corporate companies and is used daily to update and manage 1,000’s of digital signage screens located in both the UK and across the world.

Caroline Britt, Managing Director of RGB Communications comments, “We are very excited about working with Remote Media, whose knowledge, experience and products have allowed us to move confidently into the digital signage market. In conjunction with Sharp HD professional LCD information display screens and Minicom distribution systems, we are able to offer custom digital signage solutions for a variety of applications.”

Jason Cremins, CEO of Remote Media says, “We are delighted to appoint RGB Communications as exclusive UK and Ireland AV Distributors of our signagelive® range of digital signage software and hardware. RGB share our vision in delivering robust, easy to install and scalable digital signage solutions and we look forward to working with RGB and their resellers to capitalise on the explosion in the use of digital signage in both Commercial and Public sectors.”

This is a very ballsy, gutsy, confident move from Remote Media. As Guy Kawasaki says in his Art of the Start book (and blog / articles) – as a startup the smallest number of folks you have between you and a customer the better!!

Remote Media obviously believe that they have reached the next level in their ‘evolution’ (err we did say in our Top 10 Digital Signage Vendors that they were ‘punching above their own weight’) but let’s see.

How many times have wannabee big players signed up resellers and distributors all over the place (the Israeli tech folks are very good at this scattergun approach) and then never had any decent incentive progammes in place for their partners to (a) sell their product exclusively (the RGB deal is exclusive) and (b) sell their product well (RGB are well known and well thought of and we have no reason to think this would be otherwise).

RGB Communications have over 1,500 active AV/IT resellers – primarily I believe targeting Corporate and Public Sector. RGB also have Minicom Video Distribution and Sharp Commercial LCD propositions in their stable.

If RGB do things correctly then it is possible that a potential signagelive customer could buy everything they need for a Digital Signage implementation in one place.

One Response to “Remote Media exits from end user business”

  1. LisaJ Says:

I think it is great to be able to buy from one place. Many Digital Signage companies on our forum would love to be picked up by distribution.

However, the companies being picked up need to make sure that the account managers who are shipping their products are very well trained or it can backfire. Some might be mad that they can’t buy direct anymore as for some integrators love to be able to say “they buy direct” (kinda like the prize in the cereal box thing) some will opt to stay single and do there own thing.

    Nice story..
