Ocean Outdoor marketing director Richard Malton: “This is the first screen we are installing in Glasgow … Glasgow was our first port of call and we had been looking at installing one there for a while.”

Glasgow, which hosts the 2014 Commonwealth Games, is the UK’s largest retail centre outside of London. St Enoch Centre is one of the busiest shopping malls in Scotland, attracting more than 20 million shoppers last year.

The Screen @Glasgow St Enoch is located at the junction of Argyle Street and Buchanan Street, attracting more than 1.237 million impacts per two weeks.

Susan Nicol, St Enoch Centre’s general manager, said: “As well as the obvious commercial potential which the new screen will offers to advertisers, we also see excellent opportunities to use it to showcase community, cultural and civic information.

“We believe the screen will provide an excellent vehicle for interacting with visitors coming to Glasgow for events such as the Commonwealth Games and the MOBOs.

“However, now it is essential we think creatively about how best to utilise the allocation of viewing time which isn’t dedicated to advertising, ensuring it is used productively to showcase the city’s many attributes.”

Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: “This is an excellent use of the public realm, while the decision to install the first Scottish city screen in Glasgow shows the city’s standing throughout the UK. It will also be an excellent screening location for the 2014 Games, drawing crowds towards our retail hub.”

Ocean Outdoor’s management team completed a buyout of the company in May 2012 backed by LDC, part of Lloyds Banking Group. and Ocean’s Tim Bleakley will be presenting at The DailyDOOH Investor Conference which is being held in New York 23rd to 24th October 2013.

My goodness Adrain, your standards are slipping…do you just go with whatever ‘news’ is spoon fed?!
“The first full motion digital screen in a Scottish city centre”…really? Wow.

Unless you can correct me, Forrest erected the UK’s first full motion digital roadside screen, outside Piccadilly….in Glasgow City Centre, in 2003.

    A correction would be nice.

    Regards

    Marc

I feel bound to respond to the above comment on the Ocean story in order to protect the integrity of the DailyDOOH. Hands up this was Ocean that submitted the wrong version of the press release to the DailyDOOH. (version 4 instead of 5)

I’m sure there are many people reading this who can appreciate and sympathise that when your business is traveling at 100mph, sometimes a ball is dropped. All you can do is apologise and move on, which I do whole heartedly to the DailyDOOH readers.

Although not the first full motion screen I am very happy to confirm that it is in the best location in Glasgow, with the best sight lines, it is the largest screen with the latest technology and highest resolution.
