Ding Ding. Layoffs. Round 2. IZON Media.

We now have firm news of a senior VP departure at IZON Media (nee PRN) and whilst we continually see ex-PRN sales folks crop up elsewhere (mainly RMG Networks it seems) there were rumours yesterday (see our comments section here) of a round two of layoffs taking place earlier this week.

    What’s a BD guy to do when there is no investment to grow. Good luck Brian. Hopefully they cut some sals people in these layoffs. Diminished results and quotas are no way to grow a company.

    Another dodge the bullet day at IZON as we sit and watch good people being laid to the waste side. Here’s a thought, get rid of your head of HR. I wonder if Ahmad’s head is buried so deeply in the sand that he refuses to see his self proclaimed “right hand” man for who he really is. The rest of us see it. He is a lawsuit waiting to happen, that’s for sure. This guy has no idea what confidentiality is. He has continued to gossip using employees’ confidential information. The problem is, no one will speak up because they believe there is no one to go to. Who do we turn to?

    I once watched a colourful presentation from PRN on how they sell ads. It struck me that all the pitch, the promise and the metrics were based on impressions (CPM), exactly as the failed broadcast TV model does. I wondered at the time how successful this sales strategy could be, and I wonder now if this could be the reason for IZON’s lack of commercial success.

    @Truth… Brian Marin has been gone for a looooong time folks… That’s VERY old news.
    @JohnDoe – Remember – you’re still owned by Technicolor and your head of HR has bosses. If it’s that bad grow a pair and do something about it.

    @Now – news nonetheless since it has not been reported. Technicolor is a poor communicator. You know it, I know it. Grow a pair is not a great response, and shows the culture you’ve got going there. But it hasn’t been good for a while. But losing Sam’s ad sales to Triad and ops to Woven; watching the end game of the supermarket network as SuperValu walks, and working through the inevitable, flesh-taking negotiations with Walmart for the ops contract renewal that have been coming for several years. Ad sales is your game, but at this point what media do you really have left? 7-11 – ouch. A second run blood pressure kiosk play? Costco – a dozen HD TV’s? Oh yeah I forgot Rite Aid – did that really happen? This is news because you used to be a 150 million dollar retail-focused media and solutions company. What are you now?

    What a great comeback! If only it were as easy to just “grow a pair” and go to Ahmad and tell him what his “HR” guy has been up to. Technicolor is so far removed from us, it would be thrown right back to Ahmad, and so far, it doesn’t seem like he cares. Where does that leave us? Right back where we started…Only difference is, the people who have “grown a pair”, now have a bullseye on their back. And, the problem person will still be here, sitting at the “right hand” of Ahmad. People have shut down. Everyone talks about it, but no one wants to be the first person to come forward, believing that it wouldn’t matter, even if they did. IZON continues to spiral downwards while these issues will continue to be ignored and swept under the carpet…
