When everyone’s a World Leader?

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

We have translated into English a lot of press releases for clients (Swedish, Spanish, German, Dutch) and written and helped write many, many more.

It irks us then, perhaps more than most (you tell us?), with the number of vendors who claim to be ‘world leader’. If everyone is a leader or a world leader what does that leave us with? Personally I just think it is a poor grasp of the English language and a lack of vision (and understanding) on the part of the PR agency.

The very latest press release to cross our desk in this form is from Omnivex inviting us to meet Jeff Collard (their President) at Screen Expo Europe…

I thought you’d be interested in a meeting with Omnivex at Screen Expo because increasingly Context (not content) is becoming king in retail digital signage. Omnivex, the leader in data-driven digital signage content software is showing its new software platform called Moxie at the Expo which you’ll want to see.

With over 1000 customers, Omnivex has been helping retailers use context to define screen content, based on live business data like inventory, store traffic, weather, and even identifying users who are in front of the screens. That data is knowledge which is the key to changing from a “TV” type advertisement to a personalized recommendation for a shopper standing at the screen.

Jeff Collard, president of Omnivex was hoping to meet with you at the Expo to describe how retailers are leveraging this idea, and what the results are. He can also show you Moxie, which is unlike any software you’ve seen in this industry.

Omnivex is in booth C43 and show hours are February 5-6 from 9:30 to 4:00pm. I’d like to set a meeting time because Jeff will be out of the booth when he is a featured speaker. What might be convenient for a meeting? Thanks and please let me know.

We haven’t come across Omnivex before anywhere in EMEA and as you know we are widely traveled.

We declined the opportunity to meet (if Jeff isn’t on the stand he misses out, not us) but it will be interesting to see what they have to say for themselves.

At this rate I think folks are gonna need 3 or 4 days to see the whole show and meet everyone – what says Mr Pigou (Screen Expo organiser) everyone stays on for an extra day?

To be more specific on your question about market leader, Omnivex is a leader in data-driven digital signage content software. That means the software is based on a strong data handling platform which can mine data from business systems or the internet and then change content based on business rules pertaining to the underlying data.

So if a product is out of stock, the software sees that inventory number and based on business rules the user sets, Omnivex changes content accordingly. Or if it is raining, business rules in Omnivex software can change the featured product from Ray-Bans to umbrellas. Of all the digital signage vendors, Omnivex focused first on data handling, which is much better than developing a slick looking software package and adding data handling as an afterthought. I hope that helps explain Omnivex’s position in the market. The new Moxie software builds on that heritage with a lot of advanced new features.

I JUST want to say love the pumpkin on the Omnivex website.
Ok,they are Microsoft certified (congrats on that) but are taking a beating in the reviews over at:

I know CMP is huge but we could have done a better job with a review .
I understand about being the leader, ( as everyone is so busy in the DS world right now) we are all leaders in our own little worlds. For example:
I am the leader in my own little forum world as my gobs of email tell me so!

We are seasoned early adopters who have caught the wave!

So many leaders, so little time!

Let me first nail my colours to the mast here. I’m a big fan of the Omnivex products. I was tasked with deploying a global signage system for a major blue chip. Omnivex met all of my needs straight out to the box and the product deployed to 21 countries in 16 languages utilising 6000 active data points of news, pictures and financial data. So there’s no doubt that it works and works very well.

I’ve subsequently used Omnivex for over 20 successful projects many of which have required a demonstrable technical analysis against competing signage products so I know the rest of the market too.

Now, I know I’m going to get flamed here Adrian, but ‘world leader in signage’ or not Omnivex are undeniably a major player. To have compiled a “Top 10 in Digital Signage” and then to admit that you’ve never come across Omnivex, exposure in EMEA notwithstanding, reduces your analysis to a compilation of personal experience rather than a comprehensive, unbiased review. Whatever you may think of the product subsequently, I think you owe it to yourself and your readers to spend some time at the Screen Expo stand.
