Cisco Systems said yesterday [1] that it would open source its implementation of the H.264 video codec and release it as a free binary download and promised to cover the codec’s patent-licensing fees.
While not directly related to our industry – well, unless you are Prysm perhaps, Ed it is a nice sign that another big company understand the benefits of open source.
