The installation, the first digital roadside display installed in Newcastle located in the city’s highest traffic area, is also the first installation of an outdoor fully-encapsulated SMD display, featuring 3-in-1 LED technology, in the entire UK.

Mark Bracey, development director at Ocean says, “As a 10 millimeter encapsulated screen, this latest addition to our portfolio was the first of its kind in the UK and was the perfect fit for expanding our iconic digital footprint across the UK. Both I and our Operations Director, John Kilfeather, visited the factory at Brookings, and were impressed with the operation which helped secure our decision to use this outstanding screen.”

The display in Newcastle was installed in Feb/14 and features 10 millimeter pixel spacing. It measures 10 meters high by 5.4 meters wide to show crisp, clear imagery while the product also features multiple levels of protection from the outside elements.

“As the first installation of this technology in the UK, Ocean has set the benchmark of the standard of quality that brands should expect when using roadside LED technology,” says Mark Taylor, Daktronics sales representative. “When the display was switched on, all parties were blown away by its sharp uniform image. Ocean was impressed by the vivid images and high contrast this new technology has to offer. The site has proven very desirable with this first advertising sale being scheduled before the installation was even finished. A prime location, such as the one chosen by Ocean in Newcastle, combined with outstanding technology provides a powerful combination for digital out-of-home advertisers.”

This is the second high-level installation that Daktronics has done for Ocean, the first one being Liverpool city’s media wall at Liverpool Lime Street station. It is located on the side of one of the city’s main stations for the same purpose of advertising to passersby. The display features a 15HD pixel layout and measures 6.58 meters high by 30.36 meters wide and also provides protection from an outdoor environment.
