Digital Signage Best Practise Awards

Despite the untimely death of the awards’ founder and driving force, Thomas Dokter [1], it’s good to see that the Digital Signage Best Practise Awards [2], now in their eighth year, will once again take place at Viscom Frankfurt in November.

I’m on the jury for the third year in a row. The last two years have seen juries reject all nominated wayfinding projects for an award. Anyone thinking of applying who has an innovate way to present wayfinding that actually improves on not having wayfinding should definitely enter the awards.

The juries’ reasons for rejecting in previous years have all been based around exploring the usability of the provided solutions. E.g. a 3d rendered walkthrough of a route was technically really clever, and the content was beautiful, but 10 seconds in you’d forgotten whether it was left or right at the first turn.

We work late into the night discussing the detail of only 5 awards (and the special award has previously been such a stand out winner that it only took 10 minutes), so please provide us with the detail that enables us to dive deep to see how your project met the client’s brief, and if possible, exceeded it. Tell us how you went about testing the concept, and how you measured the impact afterwards to show that it really was successful.

We all differ in our outlook, so you need to please the architect, the consultant, the engineer, the designer and one of last year’s winners.

Good luck!
