Earth Day ‘Lights Out’ Today

voteearth_enIn Canada at least, members of the Out-of-Home Marketing Association of Canada will show their support for action on climate change, by shutting power to video screens and turning off the lights of their signs located in various locales including along Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway, between Jamieson and the Don Valley Parkway from 8:30 p.m. – 9:p.m. TODAY (28th March 2009)

It will be joined by others in the digital out-of-home field, including Clear Channel who announced that lights will be off on the Atrium on Bay Media Tower, street level LEDs at Yonge Dundas Square, the Gardiner and other Toronto area highways, and Pearson International Airport.

OOH industry green initiatives include the use of vegetable based and biodegradable inks, Forest Stewardship Council certified paper, bio-degradable and recycled vinyl, LED lighting and the recycling of many materials used in the manufacturing of structures. OMAC companies are also urging employees to take part in this global effort, and to visit the earthhour Web site to learn more about what they can do for Earth Hour and on an on-going basis to help save the planet.
