This marks the 79th anniversary of the awards program from the Out of Home Advertising Association of America (OAAA), the national trade association for the entire OOH and DOOH media ecosystem, and they have secured some of the biggest names in creativity, branding, art, and design to judge submissions. Tiffany Rolfe, Global Chief Creative Officer of R/GA, has signed on as jury chief to guide an esteemed panel through the judging process.

Tiffany Rolfe said “At a time when we’ve all been more indoors than ever, we’re all more appreciative of our shared spaces—the city streets, the signs and messages we all walk past each day. It will fascinating to see how the medium came to life during this time and how it will inspire us to continue to interpret it as we re-enter the world with new eyes.”

Liverpool Sees 2 x New D48s, Ahead of Nationwide Rollout

November 16th, 2020

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

UK media owner OPEN Media are launching two brand new D48 screens in Liverpool. The screens are situated at the entrance to one of the largest and busiest retail hubs in the city and dominate a busy A-road.

OPEN Media Managing Director Mike Smith told us “Despite the challenges of 2020, OPEN has remained true to its promise to invest and grow our team and portfolio. Supporting our strategy, we are investing in new cities with strong premium roadside and large format city centre locations. Liverpool is the start of the rollout and we hope to be up to 25 D48 locations by 2021. Our new networks help brands and advertisers reach new audiences, delivering incremental reach to clients campaigns and driving cut through.”

Each screen is located in very close proximity to Liverpool John Lennon Airport, the only airport in the city, which represents a unique opportunity to target multiple demographics – commuter, shopper and jet setter.

We are told that this launch marks phase one of a huge D48 rollout for the company coming in 2021. The rollout will be comprised of 25 locations and will include cities such as; Liverpool, Sheffield, Bristol, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle. All sites are hand picked, typically strong roadside locations to ensure maximum reach and impact for brands.

The brand new screens in Liverpool provide 500,900 impacts on a fortnightly basis. Brands already utilising the screen for the launch include JD Sports, Specsavers, BBC and New Balance.

The launch of the Liverpool D48 network goes live in November 2020, and this rollout puts the company in a strong position of growth leading into the new year. OPEN Media mark a pivotal point in their strategy with this launch.

XTD Rebrands As Motio

November 16th, 2020

Tristan Cotterill

Out-of-Home media company XTD has changed its name to Motio Limited. (ASX:MXO); and is pursuing its leadership in the Place Based media and Location Intelligence sector.

Approved by shareholders at its Annual General Meeting last Friday, the name change supports its diversification strategy, evolving its core business of Place Based Media. Motio’s growth ambitions have been well documented this year, launching a market facing media company by the same name, accelerating the combination of media, content, customer experience, data and technology integration to develop and grow its environments.

Adam Cadwallader, CEO and Managing Director of Motio said the name Motio represented movement and pays a genuine respect to the people who are committed to its growth. He told us “The hard work and dedication of our small, but very committed team over the past twelve months revealed clear demand for advertisers to invest in our sectors for relevance, brand safety and targeting layered with a genuine thirst from landlords looking for more than a cheque or some heat maps from their Wi-Fi provider. We are creating scaled media and data led micro-environments in the Sports and Leisure, Health and Wellness and On-The-Go Retail, replicating the same tech and approach as ‘smart cities’ or ‘precincts’ with scale, customisation and flexibility. “Whilst these elements are operating independently today, we are pioneering the ability to bring these parts together providing intelligence to our property partners, advertisers and importantly making our environment customer focussed and friendly.”

Motio now owns digital place-based networks across Australia in Health, Sports and Leisure, represents Swift Media’s Health & Wellness network, and Engagis’ Caltex Petro Retail network.

They also operate Digital-Out-Of-Home content company, Enormity and have recently announced the development of its data and analytics platform, CLIX.

Our Regular readers will know that our AdTECH: OOH Conference Series is aimed at those already in AdTECH wishing to learn more about the Out of Home Industry, and for those in Out of Home who wish to better understand Automation, Programmatic Buying, Marketplaces, Media Exchanges and Revenue Management.

The organisers of this in-person conference, the Ministry of New Media, have had a lot of success in the region and have big plans for more events there in 2021, AdTECH: OOH – Tokyo will take place, also in April 2021, the immediate week after Singapore and AdTECH: OOH – Sydney will take place for the third year running** in September 2021.

Addressing the issues with Programmatic OOH, Ron Graham told us “I still think (at least in Asia) that we have some ways to go in automating information, communication and trading between OOH sellers and buyers. Issues remain to be addressed here in the region; setting standards and generating reliable measurement. Educating all in the market is key and I really think this AdTECH conference can help advance these themes in the region early in 2021”.

Ron expanded on this in ‘Programmatic OOH in SEA, Three Things Are Needed’ in Malaysia’s top Marketing Magazine which you can read here.

** This year’s sole industry in-person event since March, 2020 took place in APAC, namely AdTECH: OOH – Sydney on September 23, 2020 which was SOLD OUT. Lockdown Remote Working Increases ‘Zoom Fatigue’

November 16th, 2020

Tristan Cotterill

Working remotely during the UK’s first #Covid19 lockdown has led to an increase in employees suffering from ‘zoom fatigue’ while generating a need for longer recovery time, says new research by London South Bank University.

The study, entitled, ‘An Investigation of Self-Control and Self-Regulation as Mechanisms Linking Remote Communication to Employee Well-Being during the Covid-19 Pandemic’, looks at the levels of energy depletion experienced by employees engaged in remote working and their increased need for daily recovery time.

The research, carried out by Karin Moser, Professor of Organisational Behaviour at LSBU’s Business School, is the first study of its kind in the UK to show how remote communications can harm employee wellbeing at work, if left unregulated.

‪#ISE2021 @SuperYacht_Tech‬ Conference

November 15th, 2020

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

Superyacht Technology News has been persuaded by the organisers of #ISE2021 to host their first ever conference, dedicated purely to technology solutions for Superyachts, in Barcelona on June 3-4, 2021. ISE of course is planned to take place June 1-4, 2021.

Jack Robinson, Managing Director of the Superyacht Technology Conference, said “ISE is the largest AV and systems integration exhibition in the world. The move falls perfectly in line with the SYTC vision in bringing diverse technologies from the world’s biggest technology brands to the superyacht sector, giving the industry access to cutting-edge technology solutions we might not ever see at marine-specific shows”.

The Superyacht Technology Conference (SYTC) is two-day event that will feature:-

  • 20 world-class speakers and technology thought leaders in inspiring ‘Tech Talks’
  • An extensive Innovation Lab, where attendees can engage directly with suppliers, manufacturers and integrators in face-to-face workshops
  • The Superyacht Technology Awards, which will take place on the evening of February 4, 2020.

Mike Blackman, Managing Director of Integrated Systems Events, told us “The superyacht market represents significant opportunities for the AV community. It brings together high-end solutions for luxurious living and sophisticated technologies for navigation, communications and connectivity. It is an important market for many of our major exhibitors. So we are delighted to be partnering with Jack Robinson and Superyacht Technology to bring the Superyacht Technology Conference to ISE 2021 in Barcelona. It is an excellent fit within ISE’s line-up of technology and business strategy conferences, and the partnership is sure to bring new audiences to both brands.”

If you have ever been to a luxury boat show (we went to the Monaco Boat Show back in 2012) then you will know how much AV can go into the boats. This is a nice conference addition to ISE and at last, a real innovation for the Barcelona event.
