ISE Live & Online. Fira Barcelona. June 1-2, 2021

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

Despite 500+ exhibitors telling the organisers a few months ago that they had no taste for a trade show in Barcelona in June #ISEBarcelona kicks off today.

“Why is the hall so dark at #ISEBarcelona?

The awful PR and rhetoric continues to spew from the organisers, today’s PR missive said “The opening of ISE’s first show in Barcelona represents a significant milestone in the development of Integrated Systems Europe, and a personal and professional triumph for Blackman, who launched the event 17 years ago with a staff of three”.

Yes, big hats off and an incredible achievement for Mike Blackman to take a show of 5000 attendees back in 2004 to the heady heights of 80,000+ a few years ago but these past 15 months have not been kind to him or his legacy. Now is the time for show organisers to be humble not brash.

It’s half term this week across the UK and Spain of course is listed as an ‘amber’ country by the UK Government (let’s think on what that means, the UK Government says you must not travel to an amber list country although it is not illegal. If you are arriving home from an amber list country you have to quarantine for 10 days, but you can do this at home or the place you have chosen to stay rather than in a Government-approved hotel) so we’d fully expect that there will be no #AVBrits at the event this week.

This is purely a local event, pushed ahead no doubt to honour some contractual or financial commitment to Fira de Barcelona. It will be interesting to see how many exhibitors they have and what the attendee numbers are like over the next few days.

As we’ve said before when your only tool is a hammer (organising a trade show) then every job is a nail (a trade show).
