The first name written down when short listing digital signage software vendors for any RFP process is still Scala and it doesn’t matter in what vertical – whether it be QSR, retail, menu boards, corporate communications, billboards, ad networks, video walls, kiosks, wayfinding etc – such is Scala’s breadth of experience (their software is a veritable ‘jack of all trades’).

^[1]In the eight award categories in The DailyDOOH Gala Awards, our international jury have listed Scala related FINALISTS in five of them…

• Scala is doing very good business (often hidden or not publicised) in the menu board, retail and QSR sector and is probably ably demonstrated with the two finalists here; Wendys USA in the Best QSR / Bar or Restaurant Deployment, and Telenet’s Mobile concept store ^[2] in Belgium in the Best High Street / Supermarket / Convenience Store or Forecourt Deployment
• The PwC Embankment Place Media Wall ^[3] in the Best Stadium/Office Building/Corporate/ Hotel, Hospitality or Leisure Install is a MicroTiles curved wall installation but also demonstrates how often Scala is used in most of the more complex MicroTiles deployments. Scala is often the software of choice in corporate employee communication settings, as well as being the most likely software used in any large video wall deployment (in 2012 Scala was represented by two of the finalists in this category, including the eventual winner ‘Bloomberg | Telecine Multimedia’).
• Scala are still the go-to software for many billboard operators (despite the huge gains made in this sector by Ayuda Media Systems in the last nine months, and by BroadSign since they won the JCDecaux business) and one of Scala’s clients Ocean Outdoor are once again up for an award in the Best Digital Out of Home Campaign with the two giant LED Mesh digital screens installed on the London IMAX to showcase the capabilities of the Galaxy S4 ^[4]. Scala customer Ocean Outdoor won this in 2012 with Microloan Foundation’s Pennies For Life.
• Scala VAR, IPC Digital Media supplied and installed Ireland’s first state of the art digital signage solution for Tesco Off License in The Merrion Centre in Dublin ^[5] which is a finalist in the new for 2013 category Best Overall Retail Experience.

Categories where Scala this year had no representation were Best Interactive / Use of Social Media Deployment (a new category for 2013), Best Digital Poster or Street Furniture Implementation and Best Original Digital Billboard (a category they won with Ocean Outdoor in 2012).
