Paris has chosen its electric scooter operators. Following a seven-month tender process it was announced yesterday that Lime Micromobility and two of their European competitors; Dott and Tier Mobility have won permits to operate shared electric scooters in Paris.

The Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo who recently won re-election, in part on her aim to rid Paris of cars, said “These three operators will be the only ones who can each deploy 5,000 scooters maximum in Paris”.

In total, 16 scooter sharing companies responded to the city’s request for proposals including; Bird, Bolt, Comodule, Spin, Voi and Wind. The operators were selected based on three criteria: environmental responsibility, safety for users, and managing the maintenance and recharging of scooters.

The big news is that this is a very big loss for Lime’s main rival, Bird. They had plans to make Paris its ‘second home’ by hiring thousands of people to work at its new European hub to be located in the city.
