Clear Channel Increasing Digital

Gail Chiasson, North American Editor

Clear Channel Outdoor is apparently on a digital expansion train in the U.S..

The company is planning to add at least 120 new digital billboards to its current portfolio of 472 digital boards in 33 of its biggest markets, and we’ve heard that it also intends to launch full-motion digital screens in bus shelters, initially in San Francisco and Washington, D.C., later this year.

The expansion has already begun with new boards going up in San Francisco (at the base of the Oakland side of the Bay Bridge) and in Dallas. Digital video screens are also being added in airports.

Clear Channel Outdoor is NOT pursuing any digital displays on bus shelters that include motion. Off-premise signage (outdoor advertising) is prohibited by local and federal ordinances to display any graphics with motion in areas that have moving traffic.
