LA Live Almost Rivals Times Square

Gail Chiasson, North American Editor

On the way to and from the STAPLES Center Saturday evening to attend the launch of LA Interactive by Toshiba and to hear more of Toshiba’s plans for the Center and elsewhere (lots more about that to come), I was totally Wow’ed by LA Live, the no-cars area bounded by the STAPLES Center, the JW Marriott Hotel, restaurants and more.

IF

Talk about digital signage! It’s bright, colourful and viewed by the millions of residents and tourists passing through.

After last night’s NHL hockey game, (viewed courtesy of Toshiba from a private box where we saw the LA Kings defeat the Vancouver Canucks), and apparently after every main sports event at STAPLES Center, Fox Sports News does its live post-game show in the midst of this colourful setting.

IF

My favourite screen is one just above the main area goes around a building corner and has various sizes on one edge of the building and the bigger screen across the side, and has an incredible amount of both advertising and creative art work.

IF

I didn’t even photograph what is probably the tallest screen in the group, as I was too close to due it justice.(Maybe tonight when we get to see the NBA LA Lakers play.) It, like many others, had big ads for the Hunger Games.

IF

I don’t know what companies have put up the screens, whose software is handling the content management, or who has done the various creative, but I recommend anyone visiting LA to take in LA Live.

Times Square just may have a rival!
