If you are in New York tomorrow (Tuesday 27th September, or indeed Minneapolis, Chicago, Santa Clara, Atlanta or Dallas in the next six months) and have an interest in learning more about NFC then you should get along to the one day bootcamps organised by OTA Training.

The Agenda for each event is the same…

  • 8:30 a.m. Breakfast and Registration
  • 9:00 a.m. Welcome, Introductions and Course Overview
  • 9:30 a.m. NFC Overview
    In this section, the concepts and the terminology used in NFC programs are introduced. The NFC Overview covers all of the major hardware, software and network components needed for any NFC system, and how these components work together to deliver an integrated NFC based marketing solution. The three NFC operating modes which form the basis of any transaction will be explained together with a quick look at typical use cases for each. This section also includes a description of the NFC Forum and other key influencers.
  • 10:30 a.m. Refreshment Break
  • 10:45 a.m. The NFC Eco-System Development
    This section reviews the various key players who interact throughout the eco-system to delivery an NFC program. The roles of the major players are reviewed, including the Mobile Network Operators (MNO), handset makers, Trusted Service Managers (TSM), etc. The status of developments by major players such as Google, Nokia, and Gemalto is reviewed. A summary of successful global pilots in payment and transit is provided.
  • 12:30 p.m. Lunch
  • 1:30 p.m. The Wide World of NFC
    This section reviews the various use cases documented over the past 5 years from organizations such as MIT, Apple and the NFC Forum. Dozens of creative ideas for leveraging the functionality of NFC are presented, along with selected business cases highlighting mobile marketing opportunities.
  • 2:30 p.m. What’s in Your (NFC) Wallet?
    This section provides insight into the complex issue of managing an NFC wallet. We will review how to deploy an NFC wallet and an NFC card and review the challenges associated with keeping your card at the “top of the wallet”. A brief overview of the functionality and access policy of the secure storage location on a mobile phone is provided as background.
  • 3:30 p.m. Refreshment Break
  • 4:00 p.m. Moving NFC Beyond Payments
    This section will review the use cases of NFC in Payments and the state of readiness of the payment infrastructure to handle NFC transactions. The benefits of leveraging NFC Payments into Loyalty and Couponing will be presented, along with the business case to combine all three into an integrated marketing program.
  • 5:00 p.m. NFC and RFID with Social Networking
    This section presents the current use cases for integrating NFC and RFID tag technology with social networking sites such as Facebook and Foursquare in order to maximize the impact of mobile marketing programs. Much hype is being generated about the impact on NFC on mobile marketing campaigns. This section separates Fact vs. Fiction and covers what really can be accomplished with NFC today and what NFC’s impact will be tomorrow.
  • 6:00 p.m. Conclusion and Networking Hour
