Have Saturn Won Royal Mail?

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

“Europe’s Big Bigger Biggest” we wrote last week as we burst one salesman’s expectation of having the biggest deployment in Europe; “Saturn seals the deal for arguably Europe’s largest #DigitalSignage Network – over 3,000 #screens at 2,000 locations!” he tweeted.

Turns out that the deal won by Saturn Communications Group Ltd. is a nice one. It’s the Royal Mail in the UK and it’s Internal communications stuff and not ad-funded at all.

Saturn are seemingly mad enough to build their own digital signage software in this day and age (why build when you can buy, why buy when you can rent) and it seems that the Royal Mail is even madder to give a massive deal like this to own-developed software rather than plump with solid, well known corporate type solutions from the likes of Scala, Haivision, EnQii or similar (which is probably what we would have done knowing the rollout parameters).

To be fair to Saturn….their ‘own-developed’ software is something that they’ve been doing for a good few years now?

As far as I am aware the main reason that Saturn have won this deal is because of what many companies miss the point on these days…..they have gone into this as a true partner and consulted all along the way to ensure that it is succesful….no rush jobs there as far as I can tell?
