Marc Theermann has joined Millennial Media, Baltimore, Maryland-based independent mobile ad platform company, as executive vice-president of business strategy.

Marc Theermann_Millennial MediaTheermann was recently at Google, where he was head of mobile platform sales, managing the publisher sales organizations for its mobile ad products.

Reporting to Michael Barrett, CEO and president, Theermann will oversee Millennial Media’s strategy, direction and go-to-market execution for business, corporate and international development, and use his expertise to accelerate the company’s position with programmatic and native advertising.

“While we already have an excellent foundation in place – especially related to the brand segment, our fast growing exchange business and the company’s valuable mobile data assets – Marc gives us that mix of leadership and ability to grow these areas more quickly for the company,” says Barrett. “I’ve had the fortunate experience of working with him in the past, as he brings a unique set of capabilities to the team and helps us execute against the goals we have recently set out in building the only independent end-to-end mobile ad platform.”

Theermann has spent most of his career as a mobile operator and investor. His mobile experience began in Boston where he co-founded two prominent wireless companies: YellowPepper and Everypoint. Later, Theermann joined Admeld (now part of Google) where he helped conceptualize the world’s first auction for the real time buying of digital ads. This early innovation in advertising technology led to Google’s acquisition of the company. His responsibilities expanded inside Google, where he led mobile platform sales and was responsible for the commercialization of Google properties, including DFP Mobile, the DoubleClick Advertising Exchange, and Admob.

“While I’ve had a fantastic time at Google, driving the strategy around the industry’s leading mobile platform combined with the ability to work with Michael ultimately made me join Millennial Media,” said Theermann. “The opportunity to accelerate the growth of a company plays to my past experience in helping scale businesses through innovative technologies, like the Millennial Media platform. As we are at another inflection point in mobile – between programmatic, native advertising and brand – Millennial Media is well positioned in those areas.”

Theermann will work out of Millennial Media’s Boston office.
