Our Lawyer Made Us Change The Name Of This Song So We Wouldn’t Get Sued

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

Geny and I will both be in town this evening attending the NUJ’s London Freelance Branch meeting. This evening’s topic is of particular interest to us (regular readers will know why) as it is about the proposed reform of defamation (libel and slander) law (there’s currently a reform Bill before Parliament).

One of the confirmed speakers is libel lawyer Robert Dougan who was the lead lawyer in the British Chiropractic Association versus Simon Singh case which overturned libel damages the BCA had sought after a critical piece by Singh in the Grauniad newspaper.

Also speaking will be freelance journalist and Index on Censorship news editor Padraig Reidy.

If anything in the evening is too depressing we can cheer ourselves up as we are having supper at our private dining club Mosimann’s afterwards in Belgravia.
