MultiBand Lay Off 30 People?

Gail Chiasson, North American Editor

While we have so far been unable to get a statement of any type from any executives at MultiBand (and such silence always helps fuel the rumours), we have an unconfirmed report that 30 people from the digital signage (or should we say ‘former digital signage’) division may now be dusting off and circulating their CVs.

It was just a year-and-a-half ago that we heard that Multiband had moved into digital signage, wanting to diversify and find additional ways to grow for its stockholders. It was entering the market initially through the sectors that it already knew and had staff to handle: installation, maintenance and servicing. It had purchased TechniqueUSA, a provider of technical services to the digital signage and content delivery industry a few months earlier.

Our guess is that Multiband’s new owners, Goodman Networks, may also have watched this investment for the year and decided that the digital signage division wasn’t bringing in enough money to warrant keeping it.

Mind you, this is simply speculation, but until we hear differently, as to paraphrase an old saying, ‘Where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.’
