Is There a Software Vision at @RMGNetworks?

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

If ex-Symon or indeed current Symon / RMG Networks staff are looking for someone to blame for many of their ills since the acquisition, then they probably need look no further than Rick Mattock (who joined RMGN from Reflect rather quietly back in June 2013) – purveyor of much that is wrong with their software strategy at present, or ex-RMG Networks CTO Daniel Kwong purveyor of ALL that was wrong pre-merger, who thankfully (for those who remained) left the business in July 2014.

dog-pooIt was, we hear, Rick Mattock‘s idea to license Intel’s RCM software – a source close to the company tells us, was because Rick thought current Symon software inadequate for the needs of ‘retail’ (yeah, go figure why a decades old piece of Windows software should be any better than what Symon had most recently developed).

Thankfully it seems that (new) RMG management are not as gullible as old management and that licensing deal (yes, it was ‘signed’ ladies and gentleman) has been shelved.

Daniel was useful to ex-CEO Garry McGuire cos’ he spoke Chinese and could do outsourcing deals (to China) and that was pretty much it – so, so much for some form of strategy vision at RMG Networks pre-merger!

This, by the way, is a company that during Garry McGuire‘s last throes as CEO, he tried to sell to Barco and others (including a proposed mega-merger deal with Scala, Inc.) as a global software provider.
